Last night, the college American Football season kicked off, with ESPN covering the season opener as the Montana Grizzlies hosted the FCS national champions, North Dakota State Bison.
College Football is simply massive in the States, and enjoys a higher popularity than the NBA, NHL, or MLB. So this match was a pretty big deal, and a mammoth audience was educated about our national sport.
During the second quarter, a clip of hurling came on the screen, and when commentator Brent Musberger started talking about the game live on air last night in front of the entire nation, it was met with the usual confusion and excitement which is only found when an outsider describes our most treasured sport.
The Grizzlies are on national TV!!!

“It’s a violent sport… It looks so dangerous!”
When trying to describe it further, it had to be pointed out, “It is not your grandfather’s filed-hockey folks!”
The clip features the Montana Grizzlies, reigning back to back national collegiate champions, a tournament we covered on Pundit Arena in May.
ESPN, if you are looking to broadcast more of the fastest game on grass, I heard there is a game in Dublin next week that might be worthwhile looking into!
