GAA Refereeing Farce Continues as Brian Gavin Might Not Officiate All Ireland Semi Final

Brian Gavin might not referee Sunday’s All Ireland Semi Final

Yesterday it emerged that inter county referee, Brian Gavin, was handed a 30 day ban for allegedly verbally abusing a match official, during an Offaly Junior Club Football Championship game between his own club Clara and Kilconfert.

However, due to the fact that Gavin’s appeal against the suspension was to be heard next week, he was to referee this Sunday’s All Ireland Semi Final between Kilkenny and Waterford.

This morning though, it has been revealed that Croke Park has intervened and asked Offaly’s Competitions Control Committee to hear Gavin’s appeal prior to the weekend’s clash.

Headquarters feel that the appeal process may prove a distraction for Gavin as he prepares to take charge of such an important fixture.

A result is expected as early as this morning.
