Kildare left Croke Park empty-handed on Saturday night as they endured a second-half blitz from All-Ireland champions Dublin in the opening round of the Allianz Football League.
Cian O’Neill’s side started brightly, and were even four points ahead after around ten minutes, but were unable to maintain that same level of intensity and goals from Dean Rock and Brian Fenton without reply from Kildare in a hectic opening period of the second half swung the tie right back in Dublin’s favour as they ran out 2-17 to 2-10 winners.
Kildare, however, would claw back some of the initiative in the dying seconds, courtesy of Daniel Flynn. The Jobstownbridge forward, already with two points to his name in the match, collected the ball before delivering a powerful shot past Stephen Cluxton and into the top corner of the Dublin net.

Dublin are looking to win the Division 1 title back from Kerry this year, and Saturday night’s result has given them the perfect start in doing just that. The Kingdom face off against Donegal on Sunday afternoon as they begin the defence of their title.
For Kildare, meanwhile, after losing all three of their visits to Croker in 2017, they have now begun 2018 in a similarly disappointing fashion.
