Corofin Star Kieran Molloy Makes Dramatic Appearance For NUIG In Sigerson Cup Final

Kieran Molloy NUIG Corofin

The meeting of Corofin and Moorefield in the All-Ireland Senior Club Championship semi-final meant that Liam Silke and Kieran Molloy were unable to compete for UCD and NUIG respectively in the Sigerson Cup final.

The Galway duo helped their colleges to the final, but it looked like they were set to sit out the decider in favour of helping their club back to Croke Park.

Speaking ahead of the final, Damien Comer lamented the loss of Molloy, but understood the duo’s predicament.

“He’s effectively missing out on the chance to play in an All-Ireland final. How often do you get that chance to play?

“It’s not ideal, really. 365 days of the year…for two massive competitions to collide on the one day, it just doesn’t make sense.”

However, Molloy clearly didn’t read the script as he made it from Tullamore back to Dublin in time to feature for the Galway college.

Some going!

UCD won the tie on a scoreline of 1-13 2-09.
