Peader Healy Steps Down As Cork Senior Football Manager

Peader Healy has this evening announced that he will step down as senior manager of the Cork footballers with immediate effect.

His Cork side were involved today in arguably one of the games of the summer as the Rebel County narrowly lost out to heavyweights Mayo. The match had to go to extra time to separate the teams and Stephen Rochford’s side emerged victorious with a one point victory.

That brave, committed display wasn’t enough to convince Healy to stay on it seems but with some excellent displays from some of the young Cork players today, there is a lot of potential for whoever decides to take up the reigns in the Rebel County.

Healy confirmed the news in the aftermath of the loss at the Gaelic Grounds in Limerick.

Healy’s two-year tenure was not without its controversy, however. There have been rumours of discontent in the camp throughout the year. Relegation from Division One of the Allianz League and a hammering at the hands of Kerry in this year’s Munster Final didn’t help his cause but it has to be said that today’s performance against Mayo has to be commended as the Cork players really went above and beyond to compete against last year’s All Ireland finalists.
