Mayo Manager Releases Much Anticipated Statement On Player Departure Controversy

Mayo Ladies Senior Football Manager, Peter Leahy, has released a statement after his side’s 3-23 to 4-13 victory over Cavan in Clones today.

Sarah Rowe and Grace Kelly were instrumental today as they helped their side to an opening victory in the TG4 ladies SFC Group 4 campaign.

The build-up to this game was marred by a number of players removing themselves from the Mayo panel, citing personal reasons.

Leahy, in his statement, outlines how the 12 players who left the panel did not do so for the same reason.

On the grounds of player welfare, eight members of the Mayo panel from one particular club withdrew from the squad, this was communicated via the club’s secretary.

Over the next five days, another four members of the panel removed themselves from the squad. Three of these players cited personal reasons and they wrote to Mayo’s Liaison Office outlining that these were not the same reasons as the original eight.

The other member, according to Leahy, has not communicated with the Mayo management about her departure.
