James Carr’s Goal Racks Up Almost 8M Views & Features On ESPN

James Carr’s second goal for Mayo during the All Ireland Senior Football Championship clash with Galway on Saturday has been viewed almost 8 million times.

Carr had already raised the green flag as Mayo enjoyed a blistering start to the match at the Gaelic Grounds but his stunning effort for the second goal will surely be a contender for goal of the championship.

The University of Limerick student went on a 60-yard mazy run, beating multiple Galway defenders before unleashing a rocket into the top corner as the ball fired back out off the stanchion.

It was truly a special goal but no one could have predicted the number of times footage of the video has been viewed.

The GAA’s official Twitter account published footage of the goal soon after it occurred and since, it has garnered almost 8 million views, 7.97 million at the time of writing to be exact.

In a bizarre twist, footage of the goal also featured on the Argentinian version of ESPN alongside images of Diego Maradona, Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Although Mayo have a number of players returning from injury, we wouldn’t be surprised if James Horan stuck with Carr for his side’s opening Super 8s clash with Kerry in Killarney on Sunday.
