Dublin hurling supporters who would have been hoping that there would be a strong contingent from All-Ireland winning club champions Cuala for the upcoming championship campaign look set to be disappointed according to a report in The Herald.
According to the report, just four of Cuala’s All-Ireland winning side will join the hurling panel ahead of the championship – Cian O’Callaghan, Seán Moran, Jake Malone and David Treacy.
This would lead to a number of big absentees such as Darragh O’Connell who was very impressive for the South Dublin club en route to their All-Ireland winning triumph over Na Piarsiagh. Mark Schutte looks also set to return to the Dublin footballers if the four aforementioned players are the only ones involved with the county hurlers.
Paul Schutte looks to be out for the summer after tearing his hamstring off the bone in the replay win over Na Piarsiagh last month.
Dublin have suffered a disappointing start to Pat Gilroy’s reign as Dublin hurling manager after winning just two games in their Allianz league campaign – Laois and Antrim. They lost games to Offaly, Galway and Limerick while also losing their quarter-final league clash to Tipperary.
Dublin start their championship campaign against Kilkenny, in Parnell Park on May 13.
