Con O’Callaghan The Hero As UCD Set Up Cracking Sigerson Final

After today’s semi-finals, we now know who will face off against one another in Saturday’s Sigerson Cup final which takes place at the Santry Sportsgrounds with a throw-in time of 15:30.

Earlier today, NUIG defeated DIT 2-12 to 0-15 at St. Loman’s GAA pitch in Mullingar with the Galway college reaching their first Sigerson Cup final since 2003.

NUIG will be without Kieran Molloy for that game due to club commitments, the half-back is set to play on Saturday for his club, Corofin, who will be contesting the All-Ireland club semi-final, taking on Moorefield at 14:00 on Saturday in O’Connor Park, Tullamore.

UCD will be joining NUIG to contest the Sigerson Cup final after they overcame Ulster University 0-18 to 1-13 in an absolute nail-biter in Inniskeen.

The match required a second period of extra-time to settle the sides as they were tied 0-16 to 1-13 after the first period of extra time. In what was a shock inclusion for the south Dublin University, Con O’Callaghan started at corner-forward despite featuring for Cuala on Saturday where he hit four points from play against Liam Mellows to help his club reach an All-Ireland final against Limerick champions, Na Piarsaigh.

Tonight, the Dublin inter-county star scored an 88th minute free to secure passage for his side into Saturday’s decider.

Another medal coming O’Callaghan’s way this Saturday? It wouldn’t be a surprise.
