Andy Moran Confirms Retirement From Inter-County Football

Andy Moran

Mayo football legend Andy Moran has announced his retirement from inter-county football.

The Ballaghaderreen club man has had a distinguished career in the green and red which included eight Connacht senior titles, a national league title, two All-Stars and the Footballer of the Year award in 2017.

Moran confirmed the news to Richie Sadlier of Second Captains this afternoon.

“We’re going through a lot now at the minute too because the football side if over for me. You’re the first one I’ve said that to, so that’s an exclusive for you, Richie.

“My career is finished as of yesterday. To be honest with you, I had a conversation with James yesterday and I just let him know that it was finished. I’m now refocussing. I know my mind is clear because I can actually think, ‘what’s my next step, what do I want to get into?’

“I left the Whatsapp groups last night…some great friends and some great memories and that was probably, if I’m being honest, it sounds silly, it was the toughest moment of the lot. Leaving the group was tough now last night.”
