GAA Betting: Four Bets To Consider Ahead Of This Weekend’s League Games

The Allianz League returns this weekend and here at Bear in the Square, we choose the value bets to follow.

We have rated the bets from one to five, with one being dodgy and five being a sure thing.

______________

Possible Faithful Improvements

The hurling league throws in with the opening game on Saturday night in Croke Park. Dublin will be looking for a quick return to 1A and should beat Offaly here. However, this will be the cakewalk the bookmakers are expecting. The Dubs are missing their sizeable Cuala contingent plus the recently returned Liam Rushe won’t feature.

This makes their task a little more difficult. Offaly, also under new management, will be targeting this game. Their performance against Kilkenny in the Walsh Cup gives the faithful county supporters some hope after a difficult few years. It also gives us enough evidence to suggest they can cover the nine-point handicap.

Stake: 2

Odds: Offaly (+9) at evens

______________

Wexford’s Big Return

Wexford were the story of last year’s league and they will be hoping to make an impression on their more illustrious counterparts from the start. Davy Fitz will target staying up in this Division as progress from last year. They have been involved in intensive training since late November and should be raring to go.

Waterford were on a team holiday and Derek McGrath has indicated in interviews that they have eased back into the training. This suggests they are not targeting the league.

Stake: 2.5

Wexford will cover the handicap here of (-3) at 10/11

______________

Tyrone To Take Tribesmen

Newly-promoted Galway will test their mettle against Tyrone in the opening round of the Division 1 football league. This a big step up from Division 2. Tyrone are seasoned campaigners and these type of clashes are their bread and butter.

Galway are trying to introduce some of last year’s successful under-21s and this will take time. Tyrone will win here by more than one point.

Stake: 2

Odds: Tyrone (-1) at 4/5

Mayo’s Holiday Blues

Monaghan host Mayo on Sunday and a potential surprise could be in store here. Mayo have recently returned from their team holiday to Malaysia. Most of their starting team did not get any minutes under their belt during the FBD league and this rustiness will not help their cause.

Monaghan are a good side and games between these two have been extremely close in recent years. Monaghan may win here but the value bet here is Monaghan to be leading at half-time.

Stake: 2

Odds: Monaghan leading at half-time at 5/4
