Meath GAA are investigating an alleged incident involving manager Andy McEntee and a local journalist following their Leinster final defeat to Dublin.
The Royals were easily defeated by 1-17 to 0-4 as Jim Gavin’s side clinched their ninth provincial title in a row with manager McEntee facing the press following the game.
According to a report in the Meath Chronicle, one of their journalists, Jimmy Geoghegan was involved in a heated altercation with McEntee after asking him if he would be releasing Meath players to play in upcoming club hurling fixtures ahead of the round four qualifier.
McEntee clearly took exception to this and allegedly replied; “Are you f**king mad? What sort of f**king question is that to ask me?”
The report then details that Geoghegan tried to interview players on the team bus following the loss which also allegedly caused another outburst from the Meath boss.
“I’ll take the f**king head off you if I see you near the f**king dressing room again.”
Meath GAA released a statement after being made aware of the incident and explained that they are investigating the alleged altercation between the pair.
“Meath G.A.A. are aware of the incident involving the Meath Senior Football Manager and a reporter from the Meath Chronicle.
“Meath G.A.A. are investigating this incident and no further comment will be made regarding this issue at this time.”
