Mayo have suffered a huge blow with the news that captain Diarmuid O’Connor looks set to miss the remainder of the All-Ireland season after fracturing his wrist.

O’Connor had been a key part of Mayo’s squad this season leading them to their first National League title in 18 years but will play no part in the rest of the campaign.

According to the Mayo News, O’Connor is expected to undergo surgery this week to repair the damage.

The injury to O’Connor is another in a series of injury blows in the panel with midfielder Matthew Ruane already ruled out for the rest of the campaign after breaking his collarbone during a training session earlier this month.

Mayo are set to face Armagh Round 3 of the All-Ireland SFC Qualifiers in Castlebar on Saturday and they’ll still be without both Tom Parsons and Seamie O’Shea who are both working on a return to fitness following their respective injuries.
