The Forecast: Your Guide To The Weekend’s Sporting Action

We have another packed weekend of excellent sporting action coming up so let’s take a look at what’s ahead and what you should be tuning in to over the coming days, in association with RNLI. 

Friday: 

What?

Airtricity League Premier Division: Dundalk vs Cork City

When? 

Kick off time is 7.35 pm.

Where?

Oriel Park, Dundalk

Where to watch?

RTÉ are showing this one.

Why is this game so important? 

One of the biggest games of the Airtricity League season, the top two are set to clash at Oriel Park tonight.

Cork City sit a point clear of Dundalk at the top of the table and a win for John Caulfield’s men would be a huge step towards defending their league title.

Both sides also go into this game in great form, with Dundalk unbeaten in 8 and Cork unbeaten in 7, as the top two look to continue their excellent momentum.

Saturday:

What? 

All-Ireland Qualifiers Round 3

When?

Saturday at 7 pm.

Where? 

St Conleth’s Park (Not Croke Park, definitely not Croke Park)

Where to watch? 

This one’s on Sky Sports Arena and Sky Sports Main Event after Cavan’s game with Tyrone.

Why is this game important? 

As well as being a crucial game in terms of qualification to the Super 8s, this has become one of the most talked about ties in recent memory.

The three-day saga which occurred between Kildare and the GAA over where to stage this game caught the attention of many in the public and all eyes will be on St Conleth’s Park on Saturday to see if the Lilywhites can put up as good a fight on the pitch as they did off it.

World Cup Last 16: Argentina vs France

When? 

Saturday at 3:00 pm

Where?

Kazan Stadium, Kazan, Russia

Where to watch?

Like all the World Cup games, RTÉ will be showing this one live

Why are these games so important? 

The first game of the tournament’s knock out rounds, two giants of the game meet in Kazan on Saturday.

Argentina scraped through their group finishing second thanks to Marcos Rojo’s late winner against Nigeria, whereas France had a comfortable but uninspiring trip into the last 16 finishing top of their group.

With both sides surely having aspirations to go far in this year’s tournament the stakes could not be higher.

What? 

Munster Hurling Final: Clare vs Cork

When? 

Throw in for this is 2:00 pm

Where?

Semple Stadium, Thurles.

Where to watch? 

RTÉ have this one

Why is this game so important? 

A Munster hurling final involving Cork and Clare for the second year in a row both sides will be looking for victory at Semple Stadium.

Clare got to the final by comprehensively beating Limerick during the last game week, to win their third game in a row and set up a meeting with Cork on July 1st.

John Meyler’s men topped the group after defeating a dogged Waterford side, as they look to retain their Munster crown.

Leinster Hurling Championship: Kilkenny vs Galway

When?

Throw in is Sunday at 7.00pm

Where?

Croke Park

Where to watch?

RTÉ is the place to catch this game.

Why is this game so important?

Galway will be looking to continue their dominance that they showed in the group stages of Leinster by beating Brian Cody’s Kilkenny for the second time this season.

Kilkenny defeated Wexford a number of weeks ago to set up a showdown with the current All-Ireland champions at Croke Park on Sunday.

Galway are unquestionably the team to beat going into this one as they won all of their Leinster group games including a victory over their final opponents Kilkenny earlier in the campaign.
