Watch: Leitrim & Mayo Involved In Gaelic Football’s First Penalty Shootout

James Horan’s return to the Mayo sideline proved a triumphant and historic one after they overcame Leitrim in the FBD League preliminary round game via a penalty shootout.

The game in Carrick-on-Shannon proved to be an entertaining affair, finishing on a scoreline of 2-13 apiece after 70 minutes.

Rather than playing extra-time, the game went straight into the GAA’s first ever inter-county penalty shootout, with the visitors coming out victorious on a scoreline of 4-1.

Mayo scored the first three penalties before Ryan O’Rourke responded for Leitrim. Unfortunately though, misses from Mark Plunkett and Domhnail Flynn presented Evan Regan with the chance to win the game.
