Galway 2-17

It was Galway who were singing come the end of this Electric Ireland All-Ireland Minor Football quarter-final clash in Pearse Park following an eight-point win over Kildare.

The Tribesmen got off to the most electric of starts with a goal through midfielder, James McLaughlin, straight from the throw-in.

Kildare settled into the game though and responded with the next score through Eoin Bagnell after Ciarán O’Brien done well to dispossess Galway’s, Jonathan McGrath.

Nathan Grainger got Galway’s first point straight away to retain their three-point lead followed by a Daniel Cox score that stretched their lead to four before Adam Conneely closed the gap once more for Kildare to cap off a frenetic opening three minutes.

Bagnell grabbed his second of the game to put just two between the sides before Tomo Culhane and Aaron Browne traded scores to leave the score at 0-4 to 1-3 after 15 minutes of action.

Galway hit the next two scores through Cox and Evan Nolan to go in front once again before Kildare hit back-to-back scores themselves through joint captain, Browne, and Bagnell.

Kildare narrowed the lead to just one for the first time after 23 minutes when O’Brien pounced on a defensive error by Galway before firing over. However, the Tribesmen hit straight back through Grainger.

Bagnell and Culhane traded scores from placed balls to close out an entertaining first half that saw Galway lead by 0-8 to 1-7.

Much like the first half, Galway came out of the blocks firing at the start of the second half kicking four points in a row to grab a foothold of the game. Kildare came roaring back into the game through Browne who was proving to be influential for the Lilywhites.

However, their progress was halted yet again by Galway who rattled the net for a second time through Grainger to take the sting out of the Leinster Champions’ challenge.

Galway were able to push on and close out the game and book their spot in this year’s Electric Ireland All-Ireland Minor Football semi-finals.
