Allianz Hurling League Round-Up: Wexford Strike Late To Shock Tipperary

Wexford fought back from eight points down to clinch a dramatic one-point victory over Tipperary this afternoon in Innovate Wexford Park.

A first-minute goal from Seamus Callanan sent Tipperary on their way and looked like they were going to coast home comfortably midway through the second half. It wasn’t to be however as Aidan Nolan popped up late to send the home crowd wild.

Elsewhere around the leagues, Limerick travelled to take in Kilkenny looking for a first win in the county for 22 years, whilst Galway welcomed native Mattie Kenny and his Dublin charges.

Allianz Hurling League Division 1A

Kilkenny 0-15 Limerick 2-18

The Treaty men recorded their first win in Nowlan park for 22 years this afternoon, swatting aside the challenge of Kilkenny in front of their home support.

Shane Dowling popped up with his sides first goal on what was his first league start for Limerick since 2017, before club mate, Conor Boylan, hit a second goal before half-time.

It was a run of 2-3 without reply in the five minutes before the half that swayed this game in the All-Ireland champion’s favour.

Allianz Hurling League Division 1A

Wexford 1-15 Tipperary 1-14

Davy Fitzgerald’s men left it late, but they overcame Tipperary in Innovate Wexford Park thanks to a late, late point from Aidan Nolan. It was a point that marked the first time in the entire match that Wexford led.

Tipperary started like a house on fire with a goal through Seamus Callinan. Seamus Casey responded in kind for Wexford, but they still found themselves behind by eight with 25 minutes left to play.

Wexford clawed their way back, however, and recorded a serious win over Liam Sheedy’s men thanks to Nolan’s late point.

Allianz Hurling League Division 1B

Galway 0-20 Dublin 1-11

Galway kept up their unbeaten start to the year with a six-point win over Dublin in Pearse Stadium this afternoon.

Cathal Mannion hit four from midfield, whilst Joe Canning registered eight frees for the 2017 All-Ireland champions who bounced back well from a shock draw with Carlow two weeks ago.

A first-half goal from Danny Sutcliffe kept the visitors in touch but on the day it was an unhappy return for Galway native, Mattie Kenny, as his Dublin side were second best from start to finish.
