Vote: Who Will Be Crowned Footballer And Young Footballer Of 2018?

It’s been another eventful summer of football from the rise of Kildare, to the early exit of Mayo, to the introduction of the Super 8s. As we reflect on the season that’s passed, we pick our contenders for Footballer and Young Footballer of the Year.

_____

Footballer of the Year

Name: Ciarán Kilkenny

County: Dublin

Credentials: Kilkenny has been the beating heart of the forward unit that has been ruthless and efficient all summer. The Castleknock man has scored 2-24 from play in his championship appearances and has played a role in many more scores. His cleverness on the ball, as well as his physicality, has made him near-impossible to mark this summer.

_____

Name: Brian Fenton

County: Dublin

Credentials: Fenton has dominated the midfield battle in every game this season and has been one of Dublin’s stand out performers alongside Kilkenny. His aerial ability, distribution and work rate have all been superb this summer while he is also well capable of contributing long-range scores from play.

He lost this accolade to Lee Keegan last season but could 2018 be his year?

_____

Name: Jack McCaffrey

County: Dublin

Credentials: The former Player of the Year was the unquestionable man-of-the-match from Sunday’s final. His blistering pace is one of his strongest assets and one which Tyrone were not equipped to deal with. He brings a tireless work rate and a great team spirit to Dublin.

Will his sensational form all season earn him this award?

_____

_____

Young Footballer of the Year

Name: David Clifford

County: Kerry

Credentials: David Clifford was a talking point after every game Kerry played this summer. You’d be forgiven if you thought he has been around this team for years but this was his first championship season at senior level. Even when Kerry were playing poorly, he was racking up countless points from play.

_____

Name: Brian Howard

County: Dublin

Credentials: The discovery and effectiveness of Brian Howard this year has to be a highlight for Jim Gavin. He is a very physical forward, well able to win his own ball but it was the scoring element of his game that impressed this summer as displayed in the final with an outstanding point.
