Tipperary Recruit Niall Quinn & Alan Quinlan To Commercial Board

A host of prominent figures from the world of business and sport have been recruited to a commercial board, established by Tipperary GAA, to help with fundraising efforts for the county’s hurlers.

The board will be headed up by Portroe native, Declan Kelly, who is the Chairman and CEO of Teneo, who recently took over from Elverys Intersport as the official sponsors of Tipperary GAA.

Former Munster and Ireland international, Alan Quinlan hails from Tipperary Town while former Republic of Ireland player, Niall Quinn, has strong links with the county as both his parents are natives of Thurles.

Other board members include Louis Fitzgerald, owner of the Louis Fitzgerald group, Declan O’Rourke, General Manager of AIG Ireland, Simon Scroope, AIB head of corporate banking, and Mick O’Keeffe, CEO of Teneo Ireland.

The Board is tasked with securing funds “to support the ongoing strategic development of the Tipperary senior hurling team under Liam Sheedy’s management.”

The first event being organised by the Commercial Board is a celebration of the 27 All Ireland Hurling Championships won by Tipperary throughout the years, in the Mansion House, Dublin on April 10.

The eight living captains will be honoured on the night while special guests in attendance will include Pat Shortt and Ireland rugby legend and 2009 Grand Slam winning Captain Brian O’Driscoll.

Sheedy is currently in his second spell as Tipperary hurling manager, having led the county to All Ireland glory in 2010.

The Premier men enjoyed a winning start to the Allianz Hurling League last Saturday night in Semple Stadium, beating 14-man Clare by 2-16 to 1-11.

Their next outing is in Gaelic Grounds next Saturday night when they face All Ireland champions, Limerick. Throw-in is 7pm.
