TG4’s Underdogs To Take On League Champions Mayo In Series Finale

The much loved TG4 series ‘Underdogs’ returns to our screens tonight as a brand new set of footballers, who have never played at a senior intercounty championship level before, test themselves against the best in the country.

Ahead of the series premiere, TG4 have announced that the Underdogs team will face Allianz League champions and All-Ireland semi-finalists, Mayo, in the series finale.

The match will be played under lights in Elverys MacHale Park in Castlebar on Saturday 26th October 2019 and TG4’s GAA Beo will provide live coverage on the night.

Last season, the crop of footballers took on the All-Ireland champions Dublin under the management of Valerie Mulcahy, Paul Galvin and Ray Silke.

This year the Underdogs management team will have two new members joining former Cork Ladies Footballer, Mulcahy. They are former Kerry All-Ireland winning Captain and Manager Mickey Ned O’Sullivan and Gaoth Dobhair legend and former Donegal Footballer Kevin Cassidy.

Over the next six weeks, the TG4 series will follow the players’ stories and personal journeys. Viewers will witness the months of preparation and intense training that it will take to transform a squad of Underdogs into a team of inter-county standard footballers.

The series kicks off on Thursday evening at 9.30pm on TG4.
