Ahead of the All-Star awards on November 2nd, Pundit Arena are asking you to vote for who you think will make the lineup of both the hurling and football teams. In the final part of the series, we are asking you to choose your preferred full-forward line.
_____
Corner-Forward
Nominee: Shane O’Donnell
County: Clare
Credentials: Shane O’Donnell was back to his 2013 best this summer. His work rate was flawless and he scored some beautiful points from play. He jetted off to Harvard in September on a scholarship but fear not Clare fans, he will be back in time for the 2019 championship.
_____
Nominee: Patrick Horgan
County: Cork
Credentials: Cork’s superstar and the man that constantly leads by example. Patrick Horgan has always been one of their best players but he somehow, raised the bar again this season. The Glen Rovers man has to be one of the best players without an All Ireland medal in his back pocket.
_____
Nominee: Cathal Mannion
County: Galway
Credentials: Another outstanding year for Cathal Mannion and he put in some memorable performances, particularly earlier in the season. When he doesn’t have the ball, he is working hard to gain possession and when he does, he is so clever in his play and ruthlessly dangerous.
_____
Nominee: Conor Whelan
County: Galway
Credentials: Conor Whelan’s name was being whispered for a HOTY nomination early in the season, such was the standard of his performances. He has proven himself to be a reliable, skilful and elegant hurler since bursting onto the scene a number of years ago and he only got better this year for Galway.
_____
Nominee: Aaron Gillane
County: Limerick
Credentials: Aaron Gillane was quickly forgiven for his red card against Cork in Munster considering his contribution to Limerick the rest of the year. The Patrickswell man was Limerick’s biggest scoring threat as well as their free-taker, a role he performed coolly. Outstanding talent going forward.
_____
Nominee: Graeme Mulcahy
County: Limerick
Credentials: Graeme Mulcahy has soldiered with the Limerick hurlers for years and in the final, after his best season yet, he was deservedly rewarded with the greatest prize. Some of his best work in that game was done off-the-ball, hunting down and turning over possession. Fitting that he scored their last point.
_____
Full-Forward
Nominee: John Conlon
County: Clare
Credentials: We have long since run out of superlatives to describe the season that John Conlon has had. He was phenomenal in every game and even when it looked as though Daithi Burke had gotten the better of him in the drawn semi-final, he hit back with four crucial points from play. His best year in the jersey.
_____
Nominee: Seamus Flanagan
County: Limerick
Credentials: Seamus Flanagan proved to be one of the most formidable forwards to mark this summer. He was pacey, intuitive and agile while his scoring was superb. His shoulder on Gearoid McInerney was just one highlight from a brilliant All Ireland final performance.
_____
Nominee: Jason Forde
County: Tipperary
Credentials: Jason Forde was the standout player for Tipperary this summer, and their only All-Star nominee. He scored a remarkable 7-72 during their League campaign before taking up the scoring mantle in the championship. After years on the fringe of the squad, it was pleasing to see him shine in 2018.
