It is being reported that former Waterford boss Derek McGrath will make his return to the inter-county scene as a coach with the Laois minor side.
McGrath has been linked with a number of vacant senior managerial positions in Cork, Offaly, Galway and in his native Waterford but has already ruled out a return to the Deise.
According to reports in the county, current Laois minor manager Enda Lyons will take over as the U20 boss next year with fellow Clough Ballacolla club man Liam Dunne stepping into his role. It is believed McGrath will join Dunne as coach.
The appointment would be another major boost for the O’Moore County following the announcement of Eddie Brennan as the senior manager last year.
Under the Kilkenny legend’s stewardship, Laois raised the Joe McDonagh Cup and progressed to their first All-Ireland quarter-final since 1979.
Since leaving his post as the Waterford manager at the end of last season, McGrath has appeared on the Sunday Game as a pundit. He is expected to be ratified with the Laois minor management later this week.
