Mayo Name Strong Team For League Opener Against Rossies

Newly reinstalled manager, James Horan, has named a strong Mayo starting team for their Allianz Division 1 League opener with Roscommon on Saturday.

Among his more experienced players, Horan has included two league debutants after impressing during the Connacht FBD League campaign.

Brian Reape from Bohola Moy Davitts has been named at full-forward, while alongside him at corner-forward is Conor Diskin of Claremorris.

Reape was part of the Mayo All Ireland winning U21 side from 2016 while Diskin featured in last year’s U20’s side who reached the decider against Kildare, scoring 0-1 in the two-point loss.

Meanwhile, it will be a historic day for centre-forward, Jason Doherty, who is set to make his 100th appearance in a Mayo jersey having made his League debut against Kerry eight years ago.

Among their potent attack, Horan has also named Fergal Boland, Aidan O’Shea and Evan Regan while Paddy Durcan will captain the side from a half-back line that also includes Lee Keegan and Colm Boyle.
