Darragh Canavan To Make First Tyrone Senior Start On Sunday

Darragh Canavan, son of the legendary Tyrone player, Peter, will make his first senior start for the county against Ulster University in the McKenna Cup this weekend.

Canavan was the star for the county’s U17 side in last year’s championship, scoring 1-03 against Roscommon alone in Croke Park.

News emerged last month that he had joined the senior ranks for training and he made his debut against Derry last month. Now the youngster is set to start from the beginning of the match on Sunday while Matthew Murnaghan will also make his first start for the county at wing-back.

Canavan is named in the full-forward line alongside Ronan O’Neill and Ruairi Sludden.

In total, Mickey Harte has made 11 positional switches to the side that started against Derry in Round 1 of the BOI Mc Kenna Cup in December with only Sludden, Aidan McCrory, Liam Rafferty, Conor Meyler, Conan Grugan, Brian Kennedy, Kyle Coney surviving from that clash.

Throw-in on Sunday in Omagh is 1.30pm.
