Jack McCaffrey’s day got off to the worst start possible, as his All-Ireland final was over in just minutes, but the Clontarf man’s spirits seemed to have been lifted by another winners medal proven by his background antics in an interview during Dublin’s post-match celebrations.
Dublin manager Jim Gavin and captain Stephen Cluxton joined Michael Lyster to speak on another historic victory for the Dubs over Mayo but it was the gestures of McCaffrey in the background that drew the laughs and attention.
The wing-back was sensational at times in this year’s championship and this will most certainly be one of the only times that Gavin will have any reason to give him a clip around the ear. Cluxton and his manager somehow managed to remain composed whilst he acknowledged the camera at every possible occasion.
After a rough start to a fantastic day, few could blame him for basking in the occasion. One would imagine it is only one of many celebratory days in a blue shirt for one of Ireland’s finest footballers.
