Kilkenny See Off A Spirited Galway To Advance To All-Ireland Final

FT: Kilkenny 1-10 Galway 1-07

Galway met Kilkenny today in the first of the two All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship semi-finals this evening with Semple Stadium playing host to the matchup.

The sides exchanged points in the early goings and when the first-half reached its own halfway mark, Kilkenny led by 0-02 to 0-01 but not a single point was scored from open-play before The Cats managed to drag themselves two points clear thanks to a Michelle Quilty point.

Galway fought back then as we went deeper into the first-half but when the teams went in at the break, it was Kilkenny who were up two points on a score of 0-04 to 0-06.

It was a half of camogie that gradually picked up as the game progressed.

The second-half well and truly started with a bang, though, as Galway’s Carrie Dolan managed to score three points in a row to put her side ahead.

The tension could be felt in the air around Semple Stadium after this swing in momentum but as the game drew closer to the final whistle, Kilkenny were able to turn it on once again – aided by a goal from Katie Power.

Two more points saw Galway trail by five with seven minutes on the clock.

Six minutes were added on but it was Kilkenny who welcomed them with another point – bringing the scoreline to 0-07 to 1-10.

Galway managed to score a goal in the game’s dying embers courtesy of Rebecca Henley but even still, succumbed to a 1-07 to 1-10 defeat.

So it will be Kilkenny who first book their spot in the All-Ireland finals and despite putting on a brave performance, it’s back to the drawing board for Galway.
