Dublin could be hit with with a second high profile withdrawal.
The Evening Herald have this afternoon reported that Jim Gavin may have to do without Jack McCaffrey during the coming football championship, as the current Footballer of The Year is said to be considering working abroad this summer.
The news will come as a blow to Dublin, particularly after All Star full back, Rory O’Carroll, announced his decision to travel to New Zealand in January. Indeed, it seems as if the news has come as a surprise to many, as McCaffrey has already seen action against Mayo and Kerry in the league.
If the Clontarf clubman does decide to leave the Dublin panel, it would leave Gavin without two of his first choice defenders as Dublin bid to become the first side the retain the All Ireland since Kerry in 2007.
As McCaffrey’s surging runs out of defence have become a key part of Dublin’s strategy over recent seasons, Gavin could be forced into a rethink before the Championship throws in.
