Niall Morgan has plenty to look forward to and plenty to be nervous about in the coming weeks as Tyrone prepare for their All-Ireland final clash with Mayo.
Not many would have predicted that Tyrone and Mayo would be competing for the Sam Maguire on the final day of the All-Ireland this year, but both sides upset the odds with brilliant victories against Kerry and Dublin.
Tyrone goalkeeper Morgan was crucial in the Ulster champions’ victory against Kerry, and while not every kick out went to plan, his massive boot was an invaluable weapon in his side’s armoury.
While one might expect Morgan’s focus would be entirely on the upcoming clash with Mayo, the Dungannon man admitted to RTE that he is worried that he’ll miss Cristiano Ronaldo’s Manchester United return while playing in the All-Ireland final.

Niall Morgan on Cristiano Ronaldo’s return.
“It’s why you play Gaelic football. You play it to be on the biggest stage and that’s where we’ve got to,” Morgan said of the upcoming All-Ireland final.
“I’m just hoping that [Ole Gunnar] Solskjaer holds back Ronaldo’s debut and doesn’t put him on that day so I don’t miss it.
“It’s been crazy. The excitement on the bus the other day when everyone seen that he was signing for United was crazy. Some of the boys were laughing at me but you just get that wee bit more buzz back after the last couple of years.”
Niall Morgan expects big things from Cristiano Ronaldo.
Tyrone’s win against Kerry and Ronaldo’s return to United were arguably the two biggest sports stories in Ireland last week, although it’s fair to say that the Portuguese footballer got more attention on an international scale.
There is also arguably more pressure on Ronaldo to perform, as despite being 36 -years-old, much is expected of the five-time Ballon d’Or winner at Old Trafford.
Morgan is just one of many fans expecting big things from the Portugal captain and he set Ronaldo the target of scoring at least 25 goals for United this season.
“I’m expecting 25 goals, easy. If he doesn’t do that he can go again,” Morgan joked.
