There was double joy on Sunday for Dingle goalkeeper Gavin Curran and his partner Claire after the pair welcomed the arrival of their baby boy, Óigí.
Curran, who is currently based in Australia, returned to Ireland to line out for Dingle during their All-Ireland title-winning campaign.
The timing of the birth made the occasion even more memorable, with Óigí born on Sunday morning as Curran prepared to face St Brigid’s in the All-Ireland final at Croke Park.
Despite the significant personal milestone, Curran took his place between the posts and played his role in Dingle’s historic victory, as the Kerry outfit added tot heir kerry and Munster titles with an All-Ireland title, rounding off a remarkable weekend for the family.
The club shared its congratulations on social media, posting: “Congratulations, Gavin & Claire, we are all forever grateful to you both. Welcome to the world (club), little one! You have two absolute legends for parents!”
The announcement was met with warm wishes from the Dingle community, as Curran celebrated success both on and off the field, marking a magic moment in his and his partners’ lives.
Curran’s partner wasn’t the only one watching Sunday’s final from Australia; his team-mate Mark O’Connor, who is also an Aussie Rules footballer for Geelong Cats, had his Aussie team-mates backing him and Dingle on from afar last weekend.

Dingle manager pays tribute to Gavin Curran and partner for their commitment
Following their famous triumph, Dingle manager Pádraig Corcoran paid tribute to the pair in an interview with Smaller Fish GAA: “Gavin had to go to Australia, and Claire, his partner, was due there in the first week of January, and he flew back for the Ballyboden game, coming in on Friday, and then flew out again the following day and just landed back there on Thursday.
“I only found out after the game that his baby boy was born. He’s flying out again at six o’clock in the morning (on Monday).
“Just incredible commitment. We’ve got guys there coming from Dublin, from Tullamore, from Limerick, from Cork, from Australia, as one of them reminded me inside in the dressing room, back to play with the club.
“That’s an incredible commitment, and I’m just delighted for the players and everybody involved in the group.”

Dingle supporters reacted with joy and pride to the news, flooding social media with congratulatory messages and warm wishes for Curran and Claire. Fans praised Curran’s commitment to the club and shared in the happiness of the growing family, hailing the arrival of Óigí as the perfect ending to a historic weekend for Dingle, both on and off the field. While Dingle and Kerry’s Paul Genaye cheekily replied on X with the below.
