Michael Lyster has been a permanent fixture in our homes for 35 years.
As the host of The Sunday Game, Lyster has seen it all, covering over 70 All Ireland finals.
He is stepping down from his role with RTÉ however, and his departure has been a significant feature of a day which saw Dublin claim their fourth straight Sam Maguire.
RTÉ broadcast a magnificent tribute to the man himself earlier today, but the victorious Dubs also got in on the act.
The Dublin team were celebrating at their hotel when manager Jim Gavin and goalkeeper Stephen Cluxton spoke to the famed presenter on Sunday night.
After an interview in which Gavin was keen to avoid the building talk of the ‘drive for five’, he presented Lyster with a football signed the victorious Dublin squad and staff.
Both he and Cluxton had a lot of nice words to say, and all the praise was thoroughly deserved.

As a certain GAA personality might say, it was a mighty sound gesture…
