Venues Confirmed For Waterford ‘Home’ Games In Munster SHC

With the new format of the Munster Senior Hurling Championship, there is the added element of home and away ties as each team play four games.

With Tipperary boasting Semple Stadium, Cork Páirc Uí Chaoimh, Limerick the Gaelic Grounds and Clare Cusack Park, they were well equipped to host the ties. However, there were question marks throughout the winter over Walsh Park’s suitability for such occasions.

This evening, it has been confirmed that Waterford will be on the road for all four of their ties this summer.

They have away matches against the Banner and Treaty counties. Meanwhile, their ‘home’ ties against Cork and Tipperary will also be outside the Déise county.

Derek McGrath’s side will face the Premier in Limerick, and face the Rebels in Thurles.

Waterford’s last trips to those grounds to face the respective oppositions didn’t go exactly according to plan, as Tipp put them to the sword in Limerick in the 2016 Munster final, and Cork saw them off in Thurles last June.

Déise fans will be hoping that the requisite improvements will be put to Walsh Park in time for the 2019 championship.
