Munster Hurling Championship final day permutations

Munster Championship

The Munster Senior Hurling Championship round-robin stage will draw to a close this weekend.

The Munster Senior Hurling Championship is set to draw to a sizzling conclusion this weekend, with three teams still vying for a place in the All-Ireland quarter-finals.

The issue for the three sides is that only one will go through, after Limerick and Clare topped the group in emphatic fashion.

Two of Cork, Tipperary and Waterford will miss out, with the former in the strongest position to make their move and qualify for the All-Ireland quarter-finals.

But there are a lot of permutations at play, and we have you covered in case of any eventuality.

What do Waterford need to qualify?

The message for the Deise is pretty simple, they must better Cork’s result against Tipperary.

Liam Cahill’s side started off their Munster Championship campaign well, but faltered at home to Cork last weekend at Walsh Park in Dungarvan.

As a result, they will be hoping to seal their place in an All-Ireland quarter-final as they look to bounce back.

A draw may even do it for them, should Cork lose to Tipp.

What do Cork need to qualify?

For Cork, their fate is in their hands, after profiting from a slip-up by Waterford last weekend.

Last week, the Rebels breathed new fire into their Munster Championship campaign thanks to a win against the Deise, and they will be hoping that a second win on the bounce will be enough to see them reach the last-eight of the All-Ireland series.

With a win, Cork are through, but they would do it with a draw if Waterford fail to defeat Clare in Ennis.

What do Tipperary need to qualify?

For Tipperary, the picture is less clear having lost their opening three games of the Munster Championship.

Even a win may not be enough, as they seek to overhaul a hefty points difference between their rivals. Either a loss or draw will not be enough, however.
