Jim Gavin Names Strong Dublin Starting XV For League Opener Against Kildare

Dublin take on Kildare at Croke Park at 7 p.m. this evening and their team news is in.

Jim Gavin has opted to mix youth with experience in his team selection for the league opener at GAA HQ.

Seven of the team which started last September’s All-Ireland final victory over Mayo are named to start tonight’s fixture against Cian O’Neill’s side.

Amongst the strong spine of the team including Stephen Cluxton, Michael Fitzsimons, James McCarthy, Brian Fenton, Michael Darragh McAuley, Ciarán Kilkenny and Dean Rock, there are the inexperienced heads of Brian Howard and Colm Basquel who will be seeking to impress throughout this league campaign ahead of the summer.

Bernard Brogan is named at corner-forward with the St. Oliver Plunketts Eoghan Ruadh clubman still offering a touch of class in the forward line while undoubtedly providing invaluable leadership around the dressing room for the youngsters attempting to breakthrough to learn from.

Here is the team in full to take on Kildare:

The Dubs will be hoping to go one better than last year in the National League, having come up just short against Kerry in an exciting final in 2017.

This evening’s fixture is preceded by a Division 1B hurling clash between Dublin and Offaly.
