However prodigious his on-pitch talents may be, Zlatan Ibrahimovic has always been best known for his ridiculously self-confident quotes.
He has previously come out with such gems as “I can’t help but laugh at how perfect I am”, however, his latest comments may just be his best.
In case you hadn’t heard, Eric Cantona, was quoted recently as saying:
“There can only be one king in Manchester. You can be the prince if you want to and the No. 7 shirt is yours if you are interested. This is my welcome gift to you. The king is gone. Long live the prince.”
Today, Zlatan has a brilliant response to the King’s remarks:
“I admire Cantona. I heard what he said, but I won’t be King of Manchester. I will be God of Manchester.“
As if United fans needed another reason to love him.
Many see the Swede as having a Cantona-like effect on the squad. The former Leeds man led a young team to glory in his day, guiding the Class of ’92 to multiple Premier League trophies. Similarly, it’s hoped that Ibra can take up the role of talisman and bring the the good days back to Sir Matt Busby Way.
Ibrahimovic comes to Manchester with an astonishingly impressive record in front of goal. He notched 113 goals in 122 appearances during his time at Paris Saint-Germain while his short time at Milan yielded a remarkable total of 42 goals.
It remains to be seen if he can recreate that form for United but it’s certainly clear that he thinks he will.
