Yet Another Arsenal Striking Target Rules Out Move

After weeks of speculation, Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi has announced his desire to remain with the Serie A side.

Arsenal fans are notoriously impatient over transfer deals and, although Arsene Wenger will argue that he has already delivered £30m midfielder Granit Xhaka this transfer window, it is really a world class striker the Gooners yearn for.

And the sheer mass of names linked with the North London club over the last few weeks has been a little ridiculous. Higuain, Lacazette, Lukaku, Icardi, and Bacca are only a handful of the strikers rumoured to be on their way to the Emirates.

However, today we can categorically rule one of those moves out.

Despite the news yesterday that Icardi’s agent, and wife, Wanda Nara was in London, the player himself has moved to slam any rumours suggesting he is interested in a move away from Inter.

After the Italian club’s 2-1 friendly win over Real Salt Lake, the Argentinian spoke to Corriere Dello Sport, and had some crushing news for the Arsenal fans hoping a deal would be wrapped up soon.

“I am here and I am fine. I always say.”

“I have a contract and we love it in Milan. The whole family wants to stay. I’m going to be here until 2019.”

The forward, who scored 16 league goals last season, also spoke of working to “improve” himself and impressing the coach.

So with one interview, weeks of rumours and weeks of hoping for Arsenal fans have been crushed.

It was unclear whether Icardi was at all a transfer target for Wenger or if the deal was entirely fabricated by the press. If he was, the Arsenal manager will have to move on quickly and look elsewhere, because the forward has made clear his intentions.

Having already been turned down by Jamie Vardy this summer, and the Higuain transfer looking more unlikely by the day, Arsenal fans will be pleading that Wenger turns these fortunes around as soon as possible.
