What Manchester United Need To Do To Qualify For The Last 16 Against Wolfsburg

It’s not as cut and dry as we thought…

Manchester United face a massive clash against Wolfsburg in the Champions League this evening with many believing that it is a ‘must win’ for Louis van Gaal’s side. However, although a win is the only way that they can ensure their faith is not decided elsewhere, there are a number of other circumstances that would see them qualify for the knockout phase of the competition.

While the Red Devils face Wolfsburg this evening, PSV will also be going head to head with CSKA Moscow in Eindhoven and, should United fail to win against the Germans, it seems a lot will depend on how CSKA fair against the Dutch Champions.

As it transpires Van Gaal could conceivably watch his side lose this evening and still see them qualify for the last 16 should CSKA also manage to win in Holland. Check out the various permutations that would see Manchester United through the group stage in the Sky Sports graphic below.
