West Ham are still in the running to sign Javier Hernandez from Manchester United with it being reported by the Daily Star that the Hammers are readying an improved £12 million bid for the Mexico international.
The London club have already had an £8.5 million offer rejected for Chicharito, who spent last season on loan at Real Madrid.
In 23 La Liga appearances last term the 27-year-old scored seven goals and created a further seven.
As far as loan deals go, it was not a success as Chicharito spent a lot of time on the bench, only managing a sustained run in the Los Blancos’ starting XI towards the conclusion of last season.
The main cause for West Ham’s interest in signing a new striker appears to be the long-term absence of frontman Enner Valencia, one of the Hammers’ more creative outlets in the final third.
Even if United accept an offer for Chicharito, it will be interesting to see if the 27-year-old would like to move to a smaller club than United at this stage of his career.
However, taking into account the Hammers’ move to the Olympic Stadium next season, the striker could form part of a new West Ham squad that is sure to develop positively from the increased income a new stadium usually brings.
