West Ham United were linked with Real Madrid starlet James Rodriguez over the weekend, and the response from supporters across the Premier League was nothing short of hilarious.
After a promising campaign under the guidance of Slaven Bilic last time out, expectations and excitement are high amongst Hammers fans – especially given their move to the Olympic Stadium.

I’ve heard some dumb transfer rumours in my time but James Rodriguez to West Ham tops them all

“West Ham”, “James Rodriguez” & “€80 million” shouldn’t appear in the same sentence together.

The newspaper reports that Rodriguez is unhappy that he has to fight for his starting spot after having it so easy at previous club Monaco. It’s said he’s also angered at manager Zinedine Zidane’s preference of Casemiro in a more defensive role. In addition to this, his agent happens to be Jorge Mendes who is the most powerful agent in football and if anyone can secure a move it’s him.
All things considered, West Ham seems an unlikely destination for Rodriguez. Their highest transfer fee has been the £15 million for Andy Carroll while the Galacticos’ estimated price is around €80 million, which would seems a bit too much for the Hammers despite their move to the Olympic Stadium. Also, with Dimitri Payet strutting his stuff in a very capable manner, is there really much need for another number ten in east London?
