Watford today announced that they had parted ways with manager Marco Silva. The Premier League club added that a replacement, with no prior experience in the English top flight, was ready to be announced.
This evening, they have unveiled Javi Gracia as the new gaffer, on an 18-month deal.
As manager, he achieved back-to-back top-10 La Liga finishes with Málaga, famously defeating eventual Champions League and Spanish champions Barcelona at the Camp Nou in February 2015.
The following campaign his Málaga side went unbeaten against both Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid on their way to an impressive eighth-place 2015/16 finish.
In 2012/13 he oversaw promotion to La Liga with Almería, and also had stints with Osasuna and Russian Premier League club Rubin Kazan.
Watford are currently 10th in the table, but only four points clear of safety. Given their run of poor form in recent weeks, Gracia will be eager to turn things around, and quickly.
