Waterford United last night confirmed the signings of Willie John Kiely and Glen Hawe.
The pair have both been part of manager Tommy Griffin’s pre-season campaign, and will offer the Blues boss another choice going forward, as the Southeast club prepare for the forthcoming season.
Kiely returns for another campaign in the RSC having rejoined the club last March. The striker has played with the Waterford Bohs and Dublin outfit Cherry Orchard, where he won the SFAI, before moving to Scotland for a spell at Aberdeen.
Hawe Joins Waterford United from local side Southend United. Having previously spent time with Dundee United, Hawe returned to the Ireland to play for Wexford Youths before rejoining his schoolboy club, Southend.
Speaking to waterford-united.ie Griffin hailed the two players, speaking of the experince both will bring to his young squad.
“It’s great to get Willie John back for the new season. He has a lot of experience in the League of Ireland and from his time in Scotland. He was great last season with our young squad and his experience will be invaluable to us this season. He’s looked sharp in pre-season and I know he can’t wait to get the season started,” Griffin said.
“I’m delighted to welcome Glenn to the club. Glenn is a very talented technical player who is comfortable out wide or in a more central attacking position and gives us another good attacking option for the new season. Glenn has worked very hard in pre-season, he’s really fit in well with the rest of the squad and I am delighted to have him on board,” Griffin added.
The Blues welcome newly promoted Longford Town to the RSC on Friday in their final preseason game.
