It was one of the captain’s most important goals for United in quite some time with the strike extending his side’s unbeaten run to 17 games, the longest in Europe.
The 31-year-old got quite emotional in his post-game interviews.

Despite the fact he is now the club’s leading goalscorer of all time, a question mark remains over his status as a legend. His relationship with the fans has always been turbulent with two transfer requests at his peak leaving a sour taste in the mouths of many fans.
His form in recent years has in the main been disastrous with today’s famous strike just the second time he’s managed to find the net in the league.
Twitter was quick to react to the big news.

Was sure he would break the record with a consolation goal off his arse, so fair play to him. 94th minute stunner.

For all the criticism; Wayne Rooney is the all-time leading goalscorer for Man United and England. A certified great and a living legend.
