Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney might have a new career lined up for himself when he eventually hangs up his boots.
For the second time in six months, Rooney has become the subject of taunting from a WWE superstar – the first of course led to the England international slapping Wade Barrett at a showing of Raw in Manchester last year.
The WWE returns to the city this week as part of the Wrestlemania Revenge tour, and when Dublin-born wrestler Sheamus appeared on Soccer AM on Sky Sports this morning to promote the show, he could not resist throwing another few barbs in Rooney’s direction.
The Celtic Warrior was patently unimpressed with Rooney’s altercation with Barrett last year, and had strong words for the forward:
“Wayne, I’ll tell you what fella, you may be good at Man United, you may be good in front of the goal – but I’ll tell you what, you got no chance in the WWE ring.
“You want a real fight, take on the Celtic Warrior. I’ll be ready and waiting in that ring at the Manchester Evening News Arena, you come down any time you want.”
Given that he has only just returned from a lengthy injury absence, one can only imagine that Rooney’s managers Louis van Gaal and Roy Hodgson would be none too happy if he so much as set foot in the ring this Tuesday.
