Watch: Walters Nets Stunner & Misses Simplest Of Chances In Space Of 15 Minutes

during the International Friendly match between Republic of Ireland and Uruguay at Aviva Stadium on June 4, 2017 in Dublin, Ireland.

Captaining Ireland versus Uruguay on Sunday, Jon Walters marked the occasion with a sensational strike from the edge of the box just before the half hour mark.

After a scrappy phase of play on the edge of the box involving Glenn Whelan and the opposition’s midfielders, the ball fell to the Stoke City striker. After getting it out of his feet he fired a perfectly arrowed shot through a group of Uruguay defenders on the edge of the D.

Despite the best efforts of Esteban Conde in goal, he couldn’t get a hand to the well struck shot, which settled in the back of the net.

With much being made of Ireland’s lack of goal threats at present, having Walters in scoring form ahead of the Austria qualifier on Sunday next is a bonus to Martin O’Neill.

What won’t be a bonus, however, is the simplest of chances he subsequently missed just before half-time. If football blooper videos are still a thing this will surely be added to one in the near future.
