Although his career sadly seemed to trickle out with a whimper rather than storm out with a bang, Nemanja Vidic will always be remembered as a legend at Old Trafford.

The Serbian centre-back represented Manchester United for eight years from 2006 to 2014, winning five Premier League titles, three League Cups, one Champions League and one Club World Cup during his phenomenal spell with the club.
71% – Of all players to have made more than 200 PL appearances, Nemanja Vidic has the best win percentage (211 games, 149 wins). Leader.

Since making his move to Inter Milan in 2014 however, Vidic’s career has gone from bad to worse and, after a hernia operation had kept him out of the game for over a year, Vidic released a statement to ManUtd.com today explaining his decision to call it quits;
“The time has come for me to hang up my boots.The injuries I have had in the last few years have taken their toll.
“I would like to thank all the players I have played with, all the managers and staff I have worked with, and say a big ‘thank you’ to the fans for their support over the years.”
Regardless of a somewhat disappointing end to his career, Vidic’s time at Old Trafford was an undoubted triumph and Manchester United fans have been gushing over their former captain on Twitter this afternoon since the news of his retirement first broke.
Vidic is one of his kind. Ruthless defender, he would put his head where most of them would be scared to put their foot in. #VivaVidic

Vidic the type of leader Manchester United need right now. Mind you, Louis van Gaal would have him playing on the right wing.

It’s hard to truly pick out one moment that encapsulates the sheer will, determination and fight that Vidic brought to the pitch every time he pulled on the Manchester United jersey, however after some talk in Pundit HQ, we think we’ve done pretty well.
Although the term thunderbast*rd is usually reserved for outrageous long range goals, we feel, for some reason, that the term could not be more perfect here. If there ever was a thunderbast*rd of a tackle, this is it…
Oh my god, is right.
