A great team goal finished off by Jeff Hendrick…
The two Irishmen helped put Burnley 1-0 up against Everton in the Premier League just before the international break.
Despite their disappointing pair of qualifiers in September, there’s been some encouraging form shown in English football from members of the Ireland squad. The likes of Sean Maguire, Conor Hourihan and Aiden McGeady have shown some good form for their respective clubs, and the Irish contingent at Burnley have combined for a fine team effort on ‘Super Sunday’.
Starting from a misplaced Leighton Baines pass in the Burnley half, the Clarets regained possession and quickly sent the ball to another Irishman on the wing in Robbie Brady.
With Everton having too many bodies behind the ball to counter attack, Brady and company opted to stroke it around midfield. Brady received the ball once again and struck it cross-field to full back Stephen Ward, who volleyed it into Chris Wood in the box. Ward found some space from a Scott Arfield pass to set up an assured Jeff Hendrick who was in prime position to put Sean Dyche’s side ahead.
The attacking prowess on show certainly bodes well for the international team as they face do-or-die world cup games against Moldova this coming Friday, and then group rivals Wales the following Monday.
