Watch: Phenomenal Error Gives Germany The Lead In Confederations Cup Final

On Sunday evening, Germany took on Chile in the Confederations Cup final in Saint Petersburg.

Chile dominated the early exchanges creating multiple chances with Alexis Sanchez in particular inexcusably missing a guilt edged opportunity.

Bayern Munich’s Arturo Vidal fired a shot on goal from distance and, after Ter Stegen parried the ball back into play, the Arsenal forward somehow missed from close range.

Despite the consistent pressure, minutes later Chile found themselves behind after an absolutely dreadful error from Marcelo Diaz.

Picking up the ball under relatively little pressure along the back line, the 30-year-old somehow decided he was going to try and turn on the edge of his box rather than offloading to his keeper.

The ball was swiftly nicked by Werner who squared to Stindl and just like that, Germany were 1-0 up.
