Watch: Memphis Depay Scored His First Goal For Lyon Last Night

Having signed for Lyon during the January transfer window, Memphis Depay opened his account with the French side on Wednesday evening.

When Memphis Depay initially signed for Manchester United back in 2014, fans of the Old Trafford club believed that they had signed one of the hottest prospects in European football.

In his opening few months with United, that certainly seemed to be the case as a few electrifying performances culminated in a mouth watering display against Club Brugge in the Champions League.

However, as the weeks turned into months, it became clear that Depay was incapable of developing any sort of consistent form in the Premier League and, at just 22 years of age, Manchester United decided that the Dutchman wasn’t yet ready for the level required at Old Trafford.

However, after his departure, Mourinho made it clear that a buy-back clause had been inserted into Depay’s contract and that United would certainly be monitoring his performances in France.

On Wednesday night, Depay made his first big step on his road to a return to form, finishing off a flowing move during Lyon’s 4-0 win over Nancy.
