A lot was made of Jurgen Klopp’s return to Dortmund, ahead of Liverpool’s Europa League clash with the German side. With tactics and team selections being the most considered subjects, none could have anticipated that both sets of fans banding together and singing You’ll Never Walk Alone before kick-off, would steal the show.
Klopp’s Liverpool side took the game to Dortmund at Signal Iduna Park, never looking like a side who were playing away from home in a two legged tie. While they looked vulnerable at the back at times, Liverpool had the more clear cut chances and took the lead in the first half with a goal from Origi.
Origi, who was put through on goal beautifully by James Milner, coolly pulled up at the edge of the box and slotted the ball passed Weidenfeller in the Dortmund goal. The goal was erased immediately after half time, as a set piece led to Mats Hummels, a long time transfer target of the reds, heading the ball passed Mignolet.
One a piece is still a great result to take back to Anfield, considering the away goal. All that’s left to do now is prepare to welcome the German fans in style as they did the scousers.
