Watch: Ireland’s Conor Hourihane Nets A Superb Hat-Trick For Aston Villa Vs. Norwich

Aston Villa and Republic of Ireland midfielder Conor Hourihane had an afternoon to remember on Saturday with a hat-trick against Norwich City.

Villa have made a slow start to their Championship season but put the Canaries to the sword with three goals, making it four for the season now after his effort in last week’s match against Reading.

While the first goal showed great positioning and opportunism, it was the Corkman’s second that stands out as the pick of the bunch, driving from well outside the box a shot that took a deflection before looping over Norwich goalkeeper Angus Gunn.

The third, which made it 4-2 and sealed the points for Steve Bruce’s side, was a measured effort as the midfielder made space for himself before steering the ball past Gunn.

Against Wes Hoolahan (who came on as a late substitute), the man that many believe is his natural replacement in the Ireland side turned in far and away his best performance in a Villa shirt since joining from Barnsley last January.

Ahead of the World Cup qualifiers against Georgia and Serbia next month, having Hourihane in this kind f form could well be giving Martin O’Neill something to think about. Indeed, it was a good day for Irish players in England with Sean Maguire setting up Jordan Hugill’s winner for Preston against Reading and Daryl Murphy scored for Nottingham Forest in their 2-1 win against Middlesbrough.
