Although he is generally considered a very good player, there were more than a few eyebrows raised this summer when Juventus paid €90 million for the services of Argentine Gonzalo Higuaín.
Questions were further asked when some less than flattering photos emerged from pre-season training where he looked awfully overweight. Goals like this, however, will have Juventus feeling pretty satisfied with their purchase – having fought off clubs including Arsenal to recruit the striker.
The 28-year-old completely dominated Serie A last season, notching 36 goals in 35 appearances while playing for Napoli but he is typically known for being more of a great goalscorer rather than a scorer of great goals.
This strike, however, against minnows Sassuolo was his second of the match, which they ultimately wound up winning 3-1. Juventus are looking as imperious as ever too, having won all three of their fixtures and sit at the top of the table as usual.
The Serie A club could likely win their league once again at a canter even without Higuaín so the real litmus test for whether or not he was worth the lofty price tag will come in the latter stages of this season’s Champions League.
Goals like this one in the meantime will help his side sprint clear of any domestic competition, leaving them able to solely concentrate on the European trophy which has eluded them in recent times.
